The Principal York, adjacent to the train station and dating back to 1878, provides the first tangible glimpse of the ambitions for and investment in the Principal hotel brand. All of the hotel’s 155 bedrooms have been given a beautiful look and feel by interior architects Goddard Littlefair, whilst the refurbished public spaces include The Garden Room, with views across the hotel lawns to York Minster in the background. The hotel also has a restaurant – The Refectory Kitchen & Terrace, serving fresh, seasonal produce from “God’s Own Country” – as well as a comfortable, cosy bar called the Chapter House.

Your day to day

An exciting opportunity has arisen at the Principal York for a Reception Supervisor to join our Front of House Team. You will support the Front of House Manager and Assistant Front of House Manager in overseeing the daily running of the Reception operation and will lead by example in ensuring the consistent delivery of exceptional service to our guests that is warm and intuitive.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensuring the consistent delivery of exceptional service in line with all brand and hotel standards to meet and exceed guest expectations. • Ensuring all members of the Reception team are trained, managed and developed in line with Company standards and guidelines• Supporting the departmental trainer with both on the job training and bitesize training with the team on a regular basis• Ensuring all Company standard operating procedures are in place and followed by the team, including cash control and payment procedures. • Ensuring all Company Health & Safety procedures are adhered to and implemented within the department• Regularly reviewing all guest feedback relating to the department and taking actions to address any shortfalls to enhance for the future. • Selling the hotel’s facilities to our guests where appropriate including bedrooms and upgraded bedrooms, breakfast and dinner reservations, the hotel bar and leisure club facilities to maximise revenue for the hotel.• Liaising with our Reservations team to ensure bedrooms are allocated appropriately to the guest and their needs.• Conducting daily line ups with the team to communicate the daily business and keep the Company mission, vision and values alive within the department. • Motivating the team, celebrating success and rewarding achievements where appropriate

What we need from you

As a Receptionist Supervisor it is essential you are able to display the following:

• Previous experience gained within a busy reception environment or 4 star hotel operation. Previous supervisory experience would be an advantage, however this is not essential.• In this role you must be flexible and adaptable and be able to make quick, effective decisions whilst working under pressure. You will demonstrate a professional and pro-active approach, setting an example to the team, to deliver truly exceptional service to enhance our guests’ experience. • This role involves working hours including evenings and weekends, therefore all candidates should be fully flexible.
