About The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative legal team for one of the world's leading hospitality companies. You will be supporting the aims of the Business, Brand and Reputation (BRR) function to champion and protect the trusted reputation of IHG and its brands.Your duties will focus on the Europe franchised estate and especially (but not exclusively) Germany, Austria & Switzerland (DACH). The role will include processing new hotel applications to support the company’s system size and new hotel signing targets using effective franchise and ancillary agreements and other agreements as required throughout the franchise life-cycle. You will also provide support to the internal teams and stakeholders who rely upon IHG’s legal department in Europe.Essential Duties and Responsibilities –• Prepare first draft heads of terms, letters of intent and memorandums of understanding• Prepare first drafts of; franchise agreements; all other ancillary agreements• Draft “side letters” and variations to franchise and other agreements• Carry out owner “due diligence” on all new applications (both managed and franchised hotels)• Prepare hotel project approval presentation “papers” as appropriate• “Map” new projects and areas of territorial protection/exclusivity using mapping software• Issue project “impact” & “courtesy” letters• Initiate project fee invoice requests as applicable• Record key project information and milestones in IHG’s various hotel databases and systems• Support the hotel opening and closing processes in appropriate databases and systems• Support the debt recovery process for terminated or cancelled hotel projects• Provide information and ad-hoc reporting to the business and line manager as required• Travel and meeting with the DACH developers as necessary, including time spent at IHG’s office in Frankfurt
Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for a junior lawyer who enjoys autonomy and responsibility. Previous experience of contract drafting is necessary from a legal discipline. The successful candidate should be driven, ready to engage with the internal stakeholders and show a keen interest in the hospitality sector. Previous franchise experience is desirable but not necessary.Full training will be provided on the standard form agreements and documents which will be used in the role and there will be regular, scheduled legal training as well as commercial training on the hotels sector. You will need to speak German as your first language and also be fluent in written and spoken English. Your administration skills must be excellent and you will have a proven eye for detail. You will be confident working under pressure and to tight deadlines and command strong IT skills. Previous paralegal experience and knowledge of German commercial contract law is desirable along with work related experience in a law firm or in a franchise environment.
